  17. <p>     You know rap has cracked the mainstream when even the most
  18. radical fare hits the top of the pop charts. N.W.A's album
  19. EFIL4ZAGGIN is No. 1 this week on Billboard's pop-album chart
  20. after just two weeks in release. The album (actually NIGGAZ4LIFE
  21. spelled backward) is a compilation of what the group calls
  22. "gangster rap"--inspired largely by the group's anger with
  23. society. The stuff gets crude, but its quick success shows that
  24. the rappers have enraptured a huge following. "People are hungry
  25. for N.W.A. Nobody can do it as good as we can," says N.W.A
  26. member Dr. Dre. "We're underground reporters. We're just tellin'
  27. the news."
